— Release of Lorenzo Soulès’ album on October 20th 2023 —
Following awarding Prizes, the Competition supports its winners in the development of their careers as professional pianists. Amongst activities undertaken, special attention is given to the recording of a CD of an original project.
After a flamboyant Competition presided over by Philippe Manoury in 2022, Lorenzo Soulès – BEG Ingénierie First Prize Winner – records Images by Claude Debussy, a masterpiece and revolutionary collection for piano and composition in the Twentieth Century. For the next part of the programme, we went with Lorenzo on a quest for the “French sound.” We just had to give pride of place to Olivier Messiaen and his Catalogue d’Oiseaux (Catalogue of Birds) and return to Philippe Manoury’s music which had accompanied us at the last Competition with two études, Réseaux and Dérèglement, commissioned for the event. In this programme, how could we not thinkof Tristan Murail and his Mandragore, and of the most French of the British, George Benjamin, with his Piano Figures?
We are also delighted to present Lorenzo Soulès’s work based on his programmes on a tour in the Centre-Val-de-Loire Region and internationally.
We hope you enjoy listening to this exceptional artist!
Isabella Vasilotta, Artistic director of the International piano competition of Orléans.
