Toros Can – 1998

Toros Can studied at the State Conservatory in Ankara, Turkey; the Royal College of Music, London; and Yale University in the USA. He studied with İlhan Baran, Güherdal Çakırsoy, Peter Katin, Edwin Roxburgh, Tedd Joselson, Peter Frankl, Joaquín Achúcarro, and Nicholas Zumbro, and performed in Masterclasses with Alexander Jenner, Jan Wijn, György Sándor, Boris Berman and Claude Frank. Aside from his successes at the Orléans International Piano Competition, Toros Can also was awarded the Fondation Yvonne Lefebure, and the Chevillion Bonnaud Prize in 1998.
His four recordings of the music of Ligeti, Hindemith, Crumb, and Purcell have won several awards including a Diapason d’Or, Le Monde de la Musique-CHOC and Telerama-ffff. Can regularly performs around the world, and has appeared at the Münster Music Festival, Saint-Riquier Festival, International Istanbul Music Festival, Holland Music Sessions, Cite de la Musique-Paris, and La Roque d’Anthéron Piano Festival. He currently teaches at Doare Music Academy and Arsu Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul.
