8th “Brin d’herbe” Competition 2019

The 8th edition of the International competition of Orléans for youth “Brin d’herbe” was heald at the “Salle de l’Institut”, from April 11th to April 14th 2019.
The competition brought together 24 young pianists around the repertoire from 1900 to the present day. A solo piano work entitled ‘Paysages intérieurs’, commissioned to the English composer Christian Mason, was premiered. The Jury, chaired by Andrew Zolinski, awarded 18 prizes to 17 candidates on all three levels of competition.
As part of our project “Connected Contest”, we propose you to relive this event in the form of mini-documentaries available on our YouTube channel, and to rewatch the recitals of our young candidates.

Commissioned piece :

Title : Inner Landscapes / Paysages Intérieurs (for piano)
Composer : Christian Mason

I. The sun, the sea (1st level), 4 min.
II. The earth: her dance (3rd level), 7 min.
III. Clouds, winds, skies (2nd level), 6 min.

These three piano pieces, composed for the Concours Brin d’herbe 2019, may be performed separately or as a collection, in which case they should be played in the given order. Though each piece is aimed at a different technical level (I. Elementary, II. Advanced, III. Intermediate), they have a common artistic aim: to connect musical expression with poetic inspiration. In particular, these pieces meditate on the emotional connection between our interior life and the vast and varied landscapes of the natural world all around us.intérieure et les paysages vastes et variés de la nature qui nous entoure.
